The Paddleboard Company and the Friends of the Morro Bay Harbor Department bring back the Jesse King Memorial Paddle Race

Paddlers getting ready to start the 2016 Jesse King Memorial Paddle Race in Morro Bay, California

What a day for a paddle race!! Thanks heaps to everyone who paddled in this year’s Jesse King Memorial Paddle Race. It was an honor to have Jesse’s family in town sharing his memories, passion for the water and saving lives as a first responder with the U.S. Coast Guard.

The water conditions were extra tough with strong offshore and side-shore winds with 2-3 knot currents. The conditions kept the Harbor Patrol and water safety team busy as the winds picked up during the race. The last mile of the race, paddlers battled strong head winds and whitecaps to the finish line. The prone paddlers had the advantage today finishing at the top of the pack.

Special thanks to the event sponsors- Friends of the Morro Bay Harbor Department, The City of Morro Bay, The Morro Bay Harbor Department, All Good, Skipper’s Brew Coffee, Kitzman’s Culligan Water, Fluid Energy Drink, Azhiaziam Surf, Spencer’s Fresh Market, and Naish.

We look forward to seeing everyone again next year!
